The 2019 summer camp for the Chinese folk music orchestra and the orchestra of the “Yingzhou Sizhu” Student’s Art Group opened in Chongming Middle School recently. This summer camp is sponsored by the district education administration and undertaken by the district teenager activity center. Nearly one hundred students from the “Yingzhou Sizhu” Student’s Art Group attended the training lasting for one week.

The summer camp consists of three parts: the opening ceremony, routine training and report-back performance.

On the short opening ceremony, the sponsor made arrangements on activities for seven days and informed students of the matters needing attention.

The routine training was carried out in tense, but orderly manner. Every day, students would attend group training for various music instruments and large group rehearsal for musical compositions. The sponsor invited experts from the downtown area and Chongming District to offer instructions to students. By attending the rehearsal, students learned how to cooperate with each other for fulfilling common tasks and how to show respect for each other. They also enhanced their professional skills, strengthened friendship and felt the fun of getting knowledge by participating in collective activities.

The sponsor also organized students to attend Chinese folk music and orchestral music concerts in City Lawn Music Plaza in Huangpu District.

On July 7, a report-back performance was held in the theatre on the second floor of Chongming District Teenager Activity Center. Students performed several melodious songs, e.g. folk music ensemble, “Song for Greeting Guests”, “Jubilance”, bamboo flute ensemble, “Song of Guerrilla”, Erhu ensemble, “Marching on the Bright Road”, folk music ensemble, “Walk on the Su Causeway” and violin ensemble, “Spring”. The performance concluded in three passionate orchestra ensembles, “My Motherland and Me”, “Katyusha” and “Good News from Beijing Arrives at Frontier Village”. Audiences applauded for the wonderful performance of students.

Chongming District established its own folk music orchestra and orchestra for students over two years ago. To create a platform for students who love arts and have specialty in arts to exchange and learn from each other, Chongming District strengthened management, recruited teachers, developed courses, built platform of activities and organized exchange, observation and learning activities. This summer camp benefited students. It enhanced student’s performance skills and awareness of teamwork. In the future, Chongming will offer more stages to students to show their talents of arts, cultivate more talents of arts and further enhance the district’s level of arts education.
