Kayak water marathon set to make waves in Chongming

The Yangtze River Delta Kayak Water Marathon, part of the 2025 Shanghai Amateur Games series, is set to take place on Aug 23-24. This thrilling event will see participants from various categories compete in the scenic waters of Chongming Island.

Event details

Time: Check-in on Aug 23, with the official race on Aug 24

Locations:

  • 21-kilometer and 16-km races: Starting at the intersection of Cuizhu Road and Chongzhou Road, Chengqiao town, finishing at Laoyao Port C Lake Wharf.

  • 7 km, 4 km, and 3 km races: Held at No 515 Honghai Highway, within the M515 Arts Centre.

Registration information

Fees:

  • 21 km competitive group: 188 yuan/person

  • 7 km amateur group: 158 yuan/person

  • 4 km fun group: 88 yuan/group

The registration fee covers insurance and a race package. Lunch is included for the competitive group, while other groups must provide their own meals. Accommodation is not included.

Equipment guidelines

  • 21 km group: Participants must bring their own kayaks and paddles, though the organizers will provide rotomolded kayaks and standard paddles. All kayaks must be manually powered.

  • 7 km, 4 km, and 3 km groups: Equipment will be provided by the organizers, with an option to bring personal life jackets.

Race timing

Strict timing regulations will ensure safety, with specific cut-off times for each race. Athletes not finishing in time will be returned by the rescue boat.
