In the golden September, rice turns yellow, marking the arrival of the autumn harvest season. On Chongming Island, the "National Day Rice" has gradually reached maturity. Recently, at the rice planting base of Shanghai Juxia Grain Planting Professional Cooperative in Xincun Township, the harvesting of 100 mu of "National Day Rice" began, filling the fields with the joy of a bountiful harvest.

In the paddies, the golden rice grains are plump, and the heavy ears of rice bend the stalks. Two harvesters shuttle back and forth in the fields. Accompanied by the rumbling sound of operation, row upon row of rice ears are quickly drawn into the machines. Harvesting, threshing, straw crushing, and loading are completed in one seamless process, while the air is filled with the refreshing aroma of rice. It is reported that  Juxia Cooperative planted a total of 2,700 mu of high-quality rice this year, of which 100 mu are the "National Day Rice" variety "Huzao Jing 193".

This variety is characterized by its heat resistance, fragrant taste, and soft, sticky texture. The new rice is expected to hit the market around September 20.

Thanks to the excellent traits of this variety and meticulous field management, even though this year saw persistent high temperatures, the yield and quality of the "National Day Rice" have been strongly guaranteed and performed outstandingly. The expected yield per mu is around 1,000 jin (500 kilograms), a 20 percent increase compared to previous years.

He Xinzhang, a technical staff member of the cooperative, explained that the cultivation of "National Day Rice" differs from that of late-season rice, as high temperatures can affect pollination. To address this, they applied foliar fertilizer to promote grain filling and adopted an irrigation method of "pumping water during the day and draining at night," effectively ensuring the rice yield.

After harvesting, the rice will undergo processes such as drying and milling before being packaged for market. By then, citizens will be able to taste this gift from the fields before National Day.
