It's Time to Prepare for Spring Plowing, Grow Seedlings and Plant Vegetables

In March, temperatures are going up, rainfall is increasing, and everything is full of vitality. At this farming season, the farmers in Chongming are fully engaged in plowing their fields and preparing for planting. Growing seedlings, preparing fields, and sowing seeds, they are laying a solid foundation for a whole year's agricultural production.

At the Yimutian Professional Fruit and Vegetable Cooperative in Xianghua Town, workers are busy planting bok choy, chicken feather vegetable, tomato and other organic vegetables.

Zhang Yi, head of the cooperative, told the reporter that the cooperative currently has a vegetable planting area of 200 mu, an increase of 40% from the previous year, and the vegetable yield per mu has reached 650 kilograms. "We have planted 26 kinds of vegetables this year, including quite a few new leafy vegetables," said Zhang Yi. Spinach, Hangzhou cabbage, lettuce and some others are now on the market. After the fresh vegetables are sorted out and packaged, they'll be delivered to major supermarkets, wet markets and membership stores by cold chain truck. The amount of vegetables delivered every day totals nearly 2 tons.

We have learned that the cooperative carries out rotational planting. They plant different kinds of leafy greens in different seasons and have four harvests a year. According to Zhang Yi, the cooperative will continue to expand the scale of planting, increase vegetable varieties, and constantly expand sales channels to allow more citizens to eat fresh and healthy organic vegetables.
