It's migration season for birds, and at the southwest end of Chongming Island's Pearl Lake Scenic Area, a large group of wild cormorants has arrived as expected. They stand, search for food, and soar over the lake, creating a unique sight.

In the center of the lake, there are wooden pilings set up by the scenic area for the convenience of these wild cormorants. At present, many of these pilings have "owners." Nearly a hundred wild cormorants can be seen either resting and gazing into the distance, enjoying their food, or preening their feathers, looking completely relaxed.

The staff at the scenic area said that the first group of wild cormorants arrived here on October 26, which is 10 days earlier compared to last year. Due to favorable ecological conditions and weather, this place has become a paradise for birds to roost. The number of cormorants taking a rest here has increased from a dozen or so in 2010 to over 300 in the past two years, and it is expected that this year's count will be the highest in years.

The best time to observe wild cormorants at the Pearl Lake Scenic Area is from late November to late February of the following year. After that, they gradually decrease in number as they migrate northward.
