Recently, in Luhua Town, the juicy and sweet "Red Beauty", the “aristocrat” of citrus, is harvested, and the fields are bustling.

In a greenhouse of Shanghai Huanlu Fruit and Vegetable Cooperative located in Luyuan Village, the "Red Beauty" citruses are mature, with plump fruits bending the branches. Lu Wei, head of the cooperative, said that he has been planting the "Red Beauty" for 18 years. "Red Beauty" is famous for its thin skin, abundant flesh, and sweet taste, with a taste similar to jelly, making it popular among consumers. The sweetness of the "Red Beauty" produced by the cooperative can reach 15 degrees.

High-quality farm produce cannot do without the support of agricultural technology. It is understood that the "Red Beauty" trees are planted by the cooperative using strip root limiting cultivation equipment, the first of its kind ever applied in China. It can cope with the high groundwater level in Chongming, prevent the roots of fruit trees from absorbing too much water, and thus increase the sweetness of citrus.

In addition to varieties such as “Red Beauty” and Orah, the cooperative also planted American sugar oranges and kumquats on a small scale. These new varieties can provide sales periods different from local varieties, filling the market gap and achieving the goal of citrus picking throughout the year at the base.

It is learned that the total citrus production of Shanghai Huanlu Fruit and Vegetable Cooperative reached 40,000 kilograms this year, mainly sold through gift boxes and picking. The entire picking cycle will continue until the end of March next year. In the future, while continuously improving product quality, the cooperative will focus on building a citrus science popularization education base, a new variety demonstration base, and an all-year-round citrus picking base, providing tourists with a richer picking experience.
