To improve green public transportation services and bring a new green travel experience to the general public, the first batch of four high-level accessible low-floor new energy buses has been introduced in Chongming and will be put into operation on Changxing No.1 Bus and Nanbao Special Line at the end of July.

These accessible vehicles, with larger internal space, are more spacious and comfortable. You will feel as if you are just walking on the ground when you get on the bus as it has a unobstructed passage. To better take care of the elderly, the handicapped, the disabled, and those carrying baby strollers, the newly launched accessible buses have lifting and tilting functions. When passengers carrying wheelchairs or baby strollers are getting on the bus, the driver can press the lifting button to tilt the bus to the right by a suitable angle. After the distance between the doorstep and the ground drops to a certain extent, an accessible board will be released and placed on the steps at the bus stop, which can help passengers with wheelchairs or strollers get on the bus smoothly.

And there is a large dedicated area in the carriage to accommodate fixed wheelchairs, baby strollers, and other supporting facilities such as buffer pads and fixed belts, which can avoid wheelchair sliding and other dangerous situations during vehicle operation. The back door adopts a sliding door and is equipped with manual wheelchair pedals to provide convenient services for special passengers.

In addition, these buses can also serve as low-floor buses as the interior floors are on the same plane from front to back, with a height of no more than 35 centimeters from the ground. After the vehicle stops, it is almost level with the platform steps, and passengers can enter the carriage without having to pedal the steps.

The launch and operation of these new accessible new energy buses mark the opening of the first batch of accessible public transportation demonstration lines in Chongming.
