Recently, the tennis competition of the 2nd Chongming District Sports Games was held at the Xiangming Sports Center, where nearly 30 tennis enthusiasts gathered to show their skills. The competition, sponsored by the Chongming District People's Government and organized by Chongming District Sports Bureau, was undertaken by the Chongming Green Action Tennis Association.

The tournament was open to tennis amateurs. There were two events, singles and doubles, with 16 signing slots. The group elimination system of "no first in four games, 3:3 for seven" was adopted.

The competition was fierce, with the players showing techniques such as dribbling and volleying to the fullest. After a whole day of competition, Zhuang Zhiwei, a 28-year-old tennis enthusiast, ultimately won the singles championship, while Zhuang Zhiwei and Shen Yibo (27-year-old) won the doubles championship.

Zhuang Zhiwei lived in Baoshan and drove to Chongming early in the morning to participate in the competition. “It was my first drive to Chongming, and I admired the beauty of the great scenery on the way. I was in a good condition. My friend recommended me to participate in it, and I played well and won two championships, which was quite surprising. Later, I will come to Chongming to play for a few days”, said Zhuang.

Every year, the Chongming Tennis Association holds a tennis tournament, which has been suspended for two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This year, the tournament has been restarted. As one of the events of the 2nd Chongming District Games, it has attracted many tennis enthusiasts.

Shi Sheng, the president of the Chongming District Tennis Association, said that when he joined the association a few years ago, mostly seniors were ten years older than him. "In the past two years, there has been a significant increase in the number of young people joining the association. I hope that with the increase of members, there will be an increase in the number of matches per year, and we will try to hold tours or point competitions in the future”, said Shi.

In recent years, tennis has rapidly grown in Chongming. The competition not only provided a platform of showing skills for tennis enthusiasts but also injected new vitality into Chongming's tennis sport.
